Group Programme

Group Therapy

We offer experiential group therapy sessions to people suffering from all kinds of psychological distress, and with diagnoses including depression, anxiety, post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), eating disorders, psychosis and obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD).

Sessions are led by psychologists and trained Dose of Nature Guides. Please contact the Dose of Nature team at info@doseofnature.org.uk for more information.

Group Programme

Currently we offer a number of group sessions to those participating in the Dose of Nature Prescriptions programme.

Creative Writing in Nature

This is a six-week gentle course aimed at appreciating the natural world. We are a small supportive group who come together weekly to encourage one another to experiment and play with language. There is no right or wrong when it comes to creative writing. This course is about pleasure. The pleasure we get from being out in nature and the pleasure of finding just the right words to express ourselves.
Each week we spend as much time as possible outside - observing, touching, smelling, listening, possibly even tasting (if it happens to be edible) what interests us most. The natural world has a way of offering human beings both inspiration and relaxation. That is a perfect combination when it comes to aiding creativity.

Art in Nature

Taking place outside at Pensford Field, we use the natural setting to inspire our individual creativity, creating art as a reflection of our own experience as part of nature.

Knitting and Nattering in Nature

This is a supportive, fun group that takes place in the beautiful nature reserve of Pensford Field. The group offers an opportunity to come together to create projects and individual pieces of work whilst learning from one another, and is open to complete beginners and advanced knitters alike. Nattering is optional, but many of our clients find it easier to talk whilst engaged in their knitting.

Mindfulness in Nature

This course of nature-based mindfulness offers a space to learn and develop mindfulness techniques. Many of our clients, volunteers and employees enjoy this time to stop and be, valuing the benefits of practising within a group. The practice can be used within daily life to limit the effects of our busy lives and busy minds, relieve stress, and be more in the present moment rather than thinking about the past or worrying about the future. No experience of mindfulness is required.

Tennis

Led by a qualified tennis instructor, our clients and volunteers enjoy the opportunity to learn a new skill or reconnect with an old one, engage with others and enjoy the many benefits to wellbeing and health that being active offers. This is a supportive, fun group who enjoy opportunities to chat and socialise off the courts. Indoor table tennis is available in extreme weather conditions. All levels welcome, from beginners to county level.

Evening Walks

Taking place fortnightly, the evening walks explore favourite spots across the Borough. These walks are open to everyone, but especially provide an opportunity for clients and volunteers who are unable to attend groups during the day to enjoy a walk with others. The walks encourage the group to connect with nature at a different time of day, and to notice and enjoy the different light, colours of dusk, and the calm and peace that evenings can offer.

Bird Walk in Richmond Park

Led by a bird and tree enthusiast, our Monday morning walks offer an opportunity to start the week in a positive frame of mind. Our clients and volunteers enjoy opportunities to walk silently and mindfully, chat and engage with others, and appreciate Richmond Park’s nature and ecology as the seasons change.

Memories and Musings with Music (for Older Adults)

This weekly group is offered by Ali, our music therapist. Loosely based around “nature” themes that are chosen by the group, we listen to music, sing, play (easy instruments, no experience required!) and chat. Supporting each other, we explore and share areas of concern that are faced by our members.
